Anyone looking for work in the Cayman Islands who is not Caymanian or does not have Caymanian status, must apply for a work permit. This is done by your employer and must be in place before moving to Cayman.
You may have up to three dependants listed on your work permit at any one time.
Visitors and those with temporary work permits must have a return ticket and enough funds to support them during their stay. It is possible to extend your stay further by visiting the Department of Immigration on Elgin Avenue in George Town. To gain an extension, you must have a valid reason for staying on the island as well as enough funds to keep you for the duration of your stay. Anyone visiting the Department of Immigration should try to get there early. Their opening times are from 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.
Expatriates are allowed to reside in Cayman for up to a maximum of seven years, with the annual renewal of a work permit. Those who work for the government or who satisfy the criteria of key employees are exempt from this rule.
If you are caught working without a permit, you will be fined and deported, as this is against the law.
