Transportation

The easiest way to get around, especially when property hunting, is to rent a vehicle. There are many car rental companies to choose from in the Cayman Islands, that offer both daily and weekly rates. These rates vary depending on the time of year and become more expensive from December to April which is our peak tourist season. Before renting a vehicle you will need to present a valid drivers license from your country of residence. Each driver must also purchase a Cayman Islands visitor's driving permit at a cost of US$7.50. This permit will be valid for the duration of your rental. Please don’t forget when hiring a vehicle that we drive on the left hand side of the road in the Cayman Islands.

Taxi fares are fairly reasonable when traveling through George Town and Seven Mile Beach. Prices, however become expensive when traveling much further a field to areas such as North Side and East End.

If you would like to experience island culture while traveling around, there is a local bus service that can transport you to all areas in Grand Cayman. There are three ways of catching a bus. You may either walk to the center of George Town where a bus station is located, next to the library, hail a bus from the side of the road or stand at one of the many bus stop signs that are dotted around the island. Licensed buses are identified by blue number plates. Each bus must display a fare table outlining standard government authorised fares so that all customers are treated fairly. There are eight different routes that take passengers to all areas of the island and each route can be identified by colour coded logos.

Route 1. Yellow and green logo: George Town and West Bay.
